ST ALBANS Leisure Centre has a leaking roof, according to a St Albans resident.
The resident told Star water had been dripping from the roof inside the leisure centre over the past week.
The resident also said leisure centre staff had been turning off electrical equipment, including cross-trainers and treadmills, whenever the leaks occurred to protect gym users.
Council’s General Manager of Community Wellbeing Kelly Grigsby confirmed there had been “various occasions” over the past year when the gym roof had leaked. But she said the leaks had been small and that the gym had never had to close as a result of the water coming through.
“When this has occurred an appropriate maintenance contractor has been called in to inspect the leak,” Ms Grigsby said.
Ms Grigsby said that there had been no damage to any of the gym equipment as a result of the leaking roof.
The council introduced 52 new pieces of cardio equipment across St Albans and Sunshine Leisure Centres in September and spent around $443,000 on improving both leisure centres last year.
When asked if the centre would get an upgrade to fix the problem, Ms Grigsby said the council would attend to roof repairs “whenever there is a problem identified”.
