BRIMBANK students looking for a pathway to a trade can now enjoy a state-of-the-art facility at Copperfield College in Delahey.
Students, school principals and teachers joined Gorton MP Brendan O’Connor to officially open the Brimbank Trade Training Centre.
Mr O’Connor said the centre received more than $5.3 million from the Federal Government as part of the Trade Training Centres in Schools Program.
“It has been fantastic to see local input from principals, parents and tradespeople in delivering this important community project,” he said at the opening.
“This trade training facility will provide industry relevant training in various industries, including qualifications in automotive, construction, electro-technology, hairdressing and hospitality that will best prepare our students for the highly skilled workforce of tomorrow.”
Mr O’Connor said such centres are being established to help increase the proportion of students achieving Year 12 or an equivalent qualification and help address skill shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries.
Copperfield College principal Tony Simpson said the centre would cater for schools across Brimbank and said it was imperative schools worked in partnership with both the State and Federal Government to sustain the facilities.
