BRIMBANK City Council has proposed an ambitious $18 million master plan for Errington Reserve.
The plan would establish the St Albans park as a “showpiece” for Brimbank according to Chair of Administrators Peter Lewinsky, and include a new community building, new sports pavilion, an all-abilities playground, a multi-use area for futsal and basketball, footpaths and cycling links.
The project will take 10 years to complete and $800,000 has already been earmarked for the project in the 2012-2013 draft budget, which was presented last week to council.
Council conducted 80 interviews with users of the reserve and created a community reference group, as well as consultation with the St Alban’s Service Providers Forum, the Tin Shed Management Committee, Errington Sports and Recreation Clubs, and the Brimbank Disability Advisory Group.
“I had the privilege to chair the community reference group and it was a terrific and passionate process, which reflects the importance of this project to the area,” Mr Lewinsky said.
“This Master Plan will be a community hub and provide better playgrounds, recreation and sporting facilities for all age groups, and the redevelopment of the community centre.” Council is seeking comment on the plan over a six week process.
