FORMER Western Bulldogs defender and Yarraville resident Steve Kretiuk will join some famous faces from AFL seasons past in the 2012 E.J. Whitten Legends Game.
Kretiuk will line up for Victoria against the All Stars at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 3 July in what will be his first match since retiring.
After initially getting the call up to play, Kretiuk had to get the all-clear from his doctor first because of a back injury.
But the Western Jets coach was delighted to be able to take part in the match for the EJ Whitten Foundation.
“I look forward to getting out there and having a bit of a kick,” Kreituk said.
“I rang Paul Dimattina up during the week and asked him about the pace of the game and I saw there were about 20 players on the bench so I think I can go in pretty confident that I will get through the game.
“Obviously it is for a really good cause in the E.J. Whitten Foundation and I am really looking forward to getting out and doing even a bit of promotion for the foundation this week. That’s the reason why we are playing and to build the awareness of prostate cancer and things like that.
“It will be great to be involved in and hopefully we can put a show on when we are out on the ground.”
Other former AFL players set to take part in the match include Wayne Carey, Peter Everitt, David Wirrpanda and Tadgh Kennelly.
