ALBION pre-schoolers will continue to play in a cubby house where human faeces and a used condom were found.
Brimbank Council and BPA Children’s Services’ decision to retain the cubby house at Albion Kindergarten comes months after Star revealed human faces and used condoms were found inside the play equipment.
Star can now reveal a sleeping bag was also found in the cubby house earlier this year, leading concerned parents to believe people had been sleeping in the structure.
In an effort to deter intruders, the cubby house has been modified to create visual access via see through panels and new security lights have been fitted.
Council’s Acting General Manager of Community Wellbeing John MacDonagh said a new security light had been fitted externally and kindergarten staff, BPA Children’s Services and the council would continue to monitor situation.
The decision to retain the cubby house comes as a win for parents and children, however, calls for higher fencing around the kinder have been ignored.
Mr MacDonagh said there have been no further reports of any activity in the kindergarten grounds after hours.
“The outdoor environment (including the cubby) is inspected each day by kindergarten staff. Council do not have any health and safety concerns,” he said.
However parents continue to demand better improved security.
One parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said more needed to be done to keep children safe.
“Every other kindergarten in the area has higher fencing with mesh so no one can see inside. Why don’t we?” she said.
“It’s not good enough. Something needs to be done.”
The concerned parent, was happy the cubby house would be retained but said the inadequate fencing was a concern prior to the recent incidents, particularly as the kindergarten is located directly across from a renowned hot spot for drug users.
