A BLISTERING first quarter set up an impressive 12-point win for Keilor in the Men’s Big V basketball on Sunday.
The Thunder hit a staggering 27 points in the opening term to race away to an eight-point lead early in the contest.
The Hornets weren’t about to lie down though and worked hard to pull the margin back in the lead up to half time.
However, after the main break the Thunder took control of the match, and this time it was for good.
Keilor added a further 41 points in the final two quarters to overrun Horsham and claim the 75-63 point win.
Brad Court was outstanding for the Thunder, scoring 20 points and winning 14 rebounds to be the most dangerous player on the court. He was well supported by Andrew Freeman, Matthew Jukes and Brad Radoslovic, who all scored double figure points.
The win lifts Keilor to fifth on the Division 2 ladder. This week, the Thunder will take on sixth-placed Maccabi.
Meanwhile, in women’s results, a dominating performance from Jessica Francke around the ring has led the Keilor Women’s Division One side to a huge 23-point win over Sunbury.
The Thunder shot out of the blocks to open up an impressive 11-point lead at the first break, and from there remained in control.
The deficit continued to grow as the match wore on, with Sunbury unable to put a dent in the margin at any stage and Keilor sealed the win 60-37.
Francke was clearly the dominant player on the court and finished the match with 19 points and nine rebounds. She has now scored double figures on 14 occasions this season.
This week, the Thunder will have the tough task of taking on competition leader Warrnambool.
