A YOUNG Arabic women’s fitness and wellbeing program in Newport will continue running for the next 12 months.
The Time For Me program, which is run from Victorian Arabic Social Services (VASS) in Oxford St, began as a 10week course but after unprecedented demand organisers decided to continue the sessions.
VASS recently received a Victorian Multicultural Commission Strengthening Multicultural Communities Grant, securing the program for a further 12 months.
Program organiser and VASS member Fatma Abdo said the program aimed to provide an enjoyable social environment in which young women could develop their health and wellbeing.
“The program has so far proved a great success with participants and volunteers alike,” she said.
Participants have already taken part in activities including yoga, circuit training, boxing, aerobics and circus skills.
Wellknown Muslim soccer player Afifa Saad, who plays with a headscarf, is a supporter of the program and has taught the women soccer skills.
The Time For Me program runs on Saturday mornings from 10.30am to 12.30pm and on Wednesday nights from 5.30pm to 6.30pm in Oxford St.
