NEW names for three Altona facilities have been given the goahead by Hobsons Bay City Council.
Last Tuesday’s council meeting confirmed the proposed names for the Altona Meadows library and community centre, the new Altona foreshore facilities, and the Altona green pavilion.
The library will now be known as the Altona Meadows Library and Learning Centre, and the new pavilion at Altona Green Reserve will become the Altona Green Sports Pavilion.
The new building at the Altona foreshore will be called the Altona Beach Life Saving Tower, and the facility at Weaver Reserve has been chosen as the Altona Beach Pavilion.
A meeting room inside the beach pavilion will be known as the Dick Murdoch room, after the retired Hobsons Bay councillor.
Councillor Angela Altair said at the meeting that it was appropriate the pavilion’s main room would be devoted to Mr Murdoch.
“This was the area that Dick represented for all of those years, and I think it is really fitting that we give it this name,” she said.
