A MAN was stabbed to death and two others wounded in Spotswood on Saturday night, in an attack police have described as “random and unprovoked”.
According to police, the three victims, all aged 27, were walking through a car park near Douglas Pde when a man got out of a car and attacked them from behind.
One of the injured men received two stab wounds to the back while the other injured man was stabbed under his arm.
Two of the victims ran out of the car park, with one collapsing in Douglas Pde, and the other returning to the car park before collapsing.
The third victim also collapsed in the car park and died from his injuries. The three men were walking together from Kensington to Williamstown when the attack took place. Police are hoping a nearby speed camera caught images of the man, thought to be a local resident, as he drove away in a late model Ford sedan. According to some reports a witness chased the attacker along Douglas Pde and on to Hyde St after the attack.
The witness lost the attacker after pursuing him for about one kilometre, near Francis St, Yarraville. Police have released an image of the suspect believed to be in his 30s, 182cm, and tanned with bleached hair. Ambulance crews attended the scene and the injured men were taken to hospital.
Police cordoned off a section of Douglas Pde near the Scienceworks museum and have taken statements from people in the area.
Police have asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation.
