A policy reminder

A STATE Government document released last week aims to refresh the minds of voters in the western suburbs of some of the government’s policy pledges.
The 16-pages of the Growing the Western Suburbs: Developing livable communities document was also released in other parts of Melbourne.
However, some of the promises for Hobsons Bay, which focused on transport, included spending $1.1 billion to upgrade the West Gate and Monash Freeways and constructing a third railway track on the Sydenham line between Sunshine and West Footscray.
Supporting the Laverton Rail freight route, and extending the Bay Trail and Kororoit Creek Trail bike paths were others.
Another $8.3 million for the duplication of Grieve Parade in Altona was announced by Altona MP Lynne Kosky, last Monday.
Ms Kosky said the project would see the final stage of the two-lane duplication completed between Doherty and Kororoit Creek Rds.
More than 15,000 vehicles use the route daily – a quarter of those are freight vehicles.
In education, the government would build a new location in Laverton for the Western Autistic School.
But Greens’ candidate for Altona, Andreas Bischof, said the new disability school was not a second school for the West, just a new location.
He said the Government would move the special school from Deer Park to a new building in Laverton, because the more valuable Deer Park land could be sold off.
“They’re selling it off as land and housing. It’s only a change of facility, not a change of service,” Mr Bischof said.
