A WILLIAMSTOWN police sergeant was put on a 12-month good behaviour bond and fined $750 without conviction after he pleaded guilty to owning 10 unregistered guns.
Sergeant Adam Fry, 42, faced the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday after the weapons –.22 rifles, 12-guage shotguns, and a .303 rifle – were seized from a gun safe at his former Deer Park home last August.
The court heard the gun licence of the 20-year veteran of the force had been revoked after he suffered mental health problems related to his marriage break-up.
Magistrate Brian Barrow described Sgt Fry as “a fine police officer who has had a long and distinguished career”.
Sgt Fry, who has since resumed full work duties, told the court he believed the guns had been registered a decade earlier.
Mr Barrow rejected an application for Sgt Fry to be deemed a prohibited person, which would have prevented him from carrying a gun while working as a police officer.
