NEWS of the greenhouse NPI pilot program came in the wake of figures showing several large companies based in Hobsons Bay had achieved reductions in greenhouse emissions in the last year.
AMI Toyota, Australian Vinyls, Dow Chemical, Mobil Refining, Murray-Goulburn Co-Op and Qenos all recorded strong “greenhouse savings” results, according to an Environment Protection Authority (EPA) report.
In endorsing this positive outcome, State Environment Minister John Thwaites said energy efficiency requirements introduced in recent years “had proved to be highly successful in delivering greenhouse and economic benefits”.
“The greenhouse savings equate to about 260,000 cars being permanently removed from our roads,” he said.
