HOBSONS Bay City Council has unveiled plans to create a foundation to ensure that donated money reaches local charitable groups.
Melbourne Community Foundation will help establish the foundation, which will collect, invest and distribute donated money to community groups using an established model.
A community based board will run the foundation and will oversee the distribution of funds.
It will operate independently of the council and is seen as a good way of ensuring benefactors are confident their donations end up where they should.
Mayor Carl Marsich said he had great confidence in the foundation and those chosen to run it.
“The Melbourne Community Foundation is an organisation with extensive experience and a sound plan for managing this project.
“The foundation is being established…to help local community groups and individuals with deductible gift recipient or charitable status to achieve their goals,” Cr Marsich said.
