A Sunshine man’s windscreen after it was smashed by a rock.

A SUNSHINE man escaped death by mere centimetres when a rock, thrown at his car, smashed through his windscreen while he was driving last week.
The father-of-three, who did not want to be named, said he was travelling along Ballarat Rd in Deer Park at 10.15pm on 22 August, when a large rock smashed through his windscreen and landed on the passenger seat.
“I was driving, probably 70km, and just in a second you had an explosion, I didn’t realise what it was,” he said.
“The car swerved and I lost control, lucky I didn’t hit anyone.”
The local businessman said he is lucky to be alive and had his wife and children been in the car the consequences could have been dire.
“If it hit me in the chest or the heart, if it was in the face, it could definitely have killed me.
“I couldn’t believe it, it was like a shooting.”
More than a week later, he admitted he’s still nervous when driving.
The motorist said he contacted police immediately but no one attended the scene while he waited for more than an hour.
He warned other drivers to take care on the road and called on the perpetrators to thnk about the consequences of their actions.
“What kind of a person would you have to be to try to kill someone?
“I’m just a husband, father trying to make a living. The point is I don’t want it to happen to anyone else.
“I’m just wondering how these people can sleep at night.”
Sunshine CIU Detective Senior Sergeant Fred Grove said, while he had no knowledge of this particular incident, cases like this had occurred in the past and could be fatal.
He said recently a police camera car was targeted and had a bag of flour thrown at it, while a fire truck was hit and had its window shattered.
“It’s certainly a concern. I would hate to think an innocent person could be injured or worse.”
