POLICE have sought to reassure Hobsons Bay City Council that there is no plan to reduce the police presence in the municipality.
Mayor Leigh Hardinge recently requested a meeting with senior local officers Inspector Mick Millen and Superintendent Tim Cartwright, following media reports that Victoria Police planned to merge Hobsons Bay and Wyndham into a single policing zone.
Cr Hardinge said he came away from the meeting satisfied that “there is no intention to reduce police services and personnel in Hobsons Bay”.
“Furthermore, police representatives have confirmed that should there be any such intention in the future, there will be wide consultation with the council and the community in the first instance,” Cr Hardinge said.
A police media spokesman confirmed that there were no plans to merge police operations in Hobsons Bay and Wyndham, despite reports to the contrary.
