No butts about bid to

NO BUTTS about it, once anti-smoking legislation comes into effect on 1 July in Victoria banning smoking in licensed venues across the state.
Hobsons Bay City Council has joined Sustainability Victoria’s ‘Don’t be a tosser’ campaign to get smokers to bin their butts rather than litter footpaths.
“Under the State Government’s new anti-smoking legislation, smokers are legally required to smoke outdoors and venue owners are legally responsible for ensuring this is enforced and that public areas outside their businesses are kept free of butt litter,” said Mayor Leigh Hardinge.
The campaign aims to keep footpaths clean and Port Phillip Bay free of cigarette butts – an estimated 365,000 butts wash into the bay every year.
Sustainability Victoria, with support from EPA Victoria, is offering small and medium-sized licensed premises a Butt Bin Rebate Scheme, providing eligible businesses with a rebate of up to $300 for purchasing a fixed or mobile butt bin.
The council is also offering local licensed venues a free ‘Don’t be a tosser’ campaign kit.
Visit the Sustainability Victoria website for business rebate details.
