CITY West Water is urging residents to report suspicious behaviour after a spate of water meter thefts in the Western suburbs.
About 15 water meters have been stolen from properties in the City West Water service area in the past 10 days, prompting the call from the water supplier.
Managing director Anne Barker said the thefts and consequent replacement of water meters had placed extra pressure on maintenance crews at a busy time of year.
“Not only is it very inconvenient for customers because they are unable to access their water supply but it is a very costly exercise for City West Water to replace (water meters).”
All water meters carry an individual serial number that allows them to be identified.
