HOUSES in Altona Meadows and Altona North were among about 1000 homes in Melbourne to go without heating for several hours last Wednesday night.
Near-freezing temperatures pushed gas consumption 35 per cent higher in the city, leading to low gas pressure in some suburbs.
The low pressure started during the dinner-time surge and continued to about 10pm, causing localised gas outages.
