POLICE are seeking information about an assault in South Melbourne that has since resulted in mobile phones being bought fraudulently from stores in the Western suburbs.
Police said a man went into the Crazy John’s mobile phone shop in Altona Gate and the Telstra Shop at Sunshine Market Plaza on May 5 where he bought mobile phones using a stolen licence, which had been altered, as identification.
The licence belonged to an assault victim who had his wallet stolen on April 30 when he was seriously assaulted by a group of five men in South Melbourne.
Police have released security camera pictures of the man they wish to speak to over the incidents.
Anyone with information is urged to contact South Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit on 9646 7475 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
