IT doesn’t matter which culture you practice; women around the world will always find a way to get together for a cuppa and a chat.
More than 100 women celebrated their Islamic traditions by sampling Arabian, Morrocan or Somalian tea during the Australian Arabic Women’s Community Group’s special cultural celebration day last Thursday at their Newport headquarters.
During the group’s annual general meeting also held on the day, long-time president Laila Houli was re-elected as president.
By this time next year, Ms Houli will have served as president for more than a decade – since the group’s inception.
“When we meet together we discuss a lot of issues, like life in Australian society,” Ms Houli said.
“We have health sessions, religion sessions, and general information sessions, and over the past three years we have had sewing classes.”
The group also runs private women’s swimming classes and group excursions.
