Boundary Rd upgrade

VICTORIAN Minister for Roads Tim Pallas has cut the ribbon on a $6.8 million upgrade to Laverton’s Boundary Rd.
Mr Pallas said 20,000 motorists using the stretch between Fitzgerald and Raymond roads each day would arrive at their destinations faster and more safely after the section was opened to four lanes of traffic last week.
He said the upgrade would help the road cope with 5000 daily truck movements more easily and make the Laverton North industrial precinct a more competitive place to do business.
“Laverton North is one of Melbourne’s major industrial precincts, with many factories, distribution centres and bulk goods facilities,” Mr Pallas said.
The addition of a second lane in each direction would allow cars and trucks to travel between the Western Ring Rd, Fitzgerald Rd and the Princes Freeway more freely, he said.
Laverton businesses would be able to slash their transportation costs significantly by reducing travel times and delays, Mr Pallas said.
“This upgrade will also make travelling along Boundary Rd much safer, with dedicated turning lanes into a number of side streets and properties, new traffic lights at Hume Rd and extra turning lanes at Hume Rd and Cambridge St.
