MERRIMU Services in Melton and Bacchus Marsh will host a Grand Final luncheon on the eve of the big day to raise much-needed funds so the organisation can continue assisting adults with a disability.
The not-for-profit organisation offers adult people with a range of disabilities integrate into the community through its two giftware shops in Bacchus Marsh and Hillside.
The shops are conducted as an activity option for Merrimu’s 140-strong clientele and provide a good training ground for retail skills and independent living skills.
Chief executive Frances O’Reilly said Australian industry has a poor record when it comes to employing people with a disability but Merrimu is working towards turning this around.
“It’s about people being members of the community and doing something for the community,” Ms O’Reilly said.
“It gives them a confidence boost.”
She said funds raised at the luncheon will go towards improving services and activities at Merrimu and encouraged local businesses and community members to get on board.
Guests will rub shoulders with Essendon young gun Dyson Heppell and Collingwood legend Peter Daicos.
Sporting memorabilia and a golf day with former Melbourne great Robert Flower will be auctioned on the day.
The luncheon will be held on Friday 28 September. Tickets for the event are $100 per person and include a three course lunch with beer, wine and soft drink included. For tickets and sponsorship enquiries call 5366 3000.
