A MILLIONAIRE businessman may breathe life into Mowbray College’s abandoned Caroline Springs campus.
Western Institute of Technology owner and Truganina resident Intaj Khan told Star he is one of five applicants shortlisted to purchase the Caroline Springs campus.
Star can reveal four parties have been shortlisted to secure the Brookside campus, with another four hopefuls bidding for the Melton site.
The three sites were put up for sale in August, three months after the private school went bust leaving 220 teachers and 1000 students stranded. Earlier this month Star reported more than 70 teachers were still out of work.
Mr Khan said if his company was successful it would establish a much-needed educational facility in Melbourne’s West.
“I’m 90 per cent confident we will be successful,” he told Star last Thursday.
“I was expecting greater interest (in the campuses). It’s a central place in relation to its location in the western suburbs.”
Mr Khan believes most of the other applicants are builders and developers and said it was vital that another educational institution is built in the area instead of additional housing.
A statement from Fitzroys, the real estate company overseeing the sale of the three campuses, said the expression of interest campaign closed on 14 September.
“Strong interest for the campuses was received from educational providers both in one line and individually,” the statement read.
“A number of parties have been shortlisted and we will be progressing this interest to formalise the sale of the campuses over the coming weeks.”
