THUNDER, lightning, rain and the lure of an AFL Grand Final parade put a slight dampener on the annual Sunshine Full Moon Celebration last week.
But Brimbank residents still braved the weather to swamp the Sunshine Town Centre on Friday for Tết Trung Thu, a festival from the calendar of Vietnamese culture in which families traditionally take a break from the busy harvest season to celebrate.
The fun kicked off early in the day in Sunshine with a street market featuring local traders and plenty of interesting wares, as well as jumping castles and stilt walkers.
Festival-goers tucked into moon cakes and other delicious local fare while performers provided a welcome distraction from the pouring rain.
Children took part in lantern decorating for the highlight of the day, the night-time Lantern Parade.
It’s the third year of the event being held in Brimbank, since the Sunshine Business Association began the celebration in 2009.
