RESIDENTS from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities can apply to be appointed to Hobsons Bay City Council’s Multicultural Advisory Group (MAG).
The group will require 14 new members, with the recent expiry of the two-year term of the previous group.
Hobsons Bay mayor Peter Hemphill said the council recognised the vital role the group played in the council’s consultative processes and encouraged new nominations.
“Since MAG’s inception in 2001 in response to the changing community profile of Hobsons Bay, the group has been very successful in advocating on behalf of CALD communities,” he said.
“As an advisory committee since 2005, the group has also assisted the council by providing relevant input into a range of council strategies and policies, most notably the Multicultural Policy and Action Plan 2008-2011.”
The group will play a role in keeping communication open between the council and Hobsons Bay’s multicultural community.
“I urge community members from all backgrounds and cultures to apply and help maintain a mutually respectful and equal municipality,” Cr Hemphill said.
“The recruitment of members via public nomination provides an opportunity for new members to advise the council on issues and barriers affecting people from CALD backgrounds who live, work, or study in Hobsons Bay.”
Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au and need to be returned by 3 August.
