HOBSONS Bay cyclists can have a unique Ride to Work experience on 14 October, as the Westgate Punt runs a special service.
The punt will run under the West Gate Bridge between the Scienceworks Jetty in Spotswood and Lorimer St in Port Melbourne.
Greens MLC Colleen Hartland said the Westgate Bike Punt was the missing link in the bicycle network.
“Every year the number of bicycle commuters grows,” she said.
“(The punt) would play its part in relieving congestion on our roads and public transport, by encouraging people to get on their bikes.”
The punt cuts western suburbs cyclists’ trips to the city from about 13 kilometres to 100 metres.
It will launch its weekend summer service, which runs on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am -5pm on demand after Ride to Work day.
The Westgate Punt will run from 6.30am – 9.30am then 4pm-7pm, leaving Scienceworks Jetty on the half hour and Fisherman’s Bend 15 minutes later. It costs $5 one way and $7 return.
