WILLIAMSTOWN CYMS saved face by not losing outright to South Caulfield in its Victorian Turf Cricket Association two-day match at Fearon Reserve on Saturday.
Facing certain defeat with the visitors requiring 15 runs for victory at the beginning of day two, the CYs were out to avoid an outright loss.
Trivially, the host side posted 165 in its second innings, exactly the same score as its first dig on day one.
Warren Kelly was again the hero with the bat for the CYs, backing up his first innings century with a half-century in the second.
It seemed like it could not surpass its own first innings effort, losing three wickets for no runs to be all out, leaving South Caulfield with 119 for outright victory in 18 overs.
The visitors could manage just 4/51, Andrew Walshe claiming all four scalps.
The loss ended a disappointing season for the CYs, finishing 10th out of 12 teams with just three wins, the last of which was an uplifting victory over Keilor.
South Caulfield will take on Yarraville Club at Hansen Reserve in the first semi-final this Saturday and Sunday.
