THE Rotary Club of Altona is hoping to provide aid through art.
From 15 to 17 October, the 33rd Annual Rotary Club of Altona Art Show will have hundreds of artworks on sale, with 25 per cent of funds going to a range of community initiatives.
Altona Rotary Club secretary Therese McKenney-Campbell said last year there were over 154 artists exhibiting, with just under 600 entries.
“It’s one of our largest fund-raisers, we sell about a third of the artworks,” she said.
There is a diverse use of mediums with a range of categories including best in show, best watercolour, best oil and best Williamstown/Altona scene.
In the last four years the club also brought in a photographic section.
On the Friday night there will be a gala preview evening dinner and bush dancing to the Bush Orchestra.
Funding will go towards a range of Altona Rotary initiatives.
In the past the club was able to buy a new ambulance for the local St John Ambulance service, and is hoping to get over $15,000 worth of funding from the event.
Funding will also go towards kits for homeless youths, which include noodle boxes and cleaning products.
“Homeless youths coming to dire straits, they might get housing in a caravan and all that’s available is hot water,” Ms McKenney-Campbell said.
She said providing food that required minimal effort could ease the pressure.
Budding artists can still enter artworks by contacting Ms McKenney-Campbell on 9391 8504 or visiting www.altonarotary.com.au
The event is hosted at SeaWorks, Williamstown Maritime Museum, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown.
