WILLIAMSTOWN’S Olga Reginato is throwing a rain dance in Hobsons Bay and everyone is invited to attend.
May Day – a rain dance to stop the floods, will be a flood benefit concert to raise much needed funds for the people of Hobsons Bay’s sister councils Buloke Shire.
Olga said the money would go directly to fund a community project and bypass the red tape that seems to be surrounding much of the donated funds for flood relief.
“Despite all the money that has been donated, funds are still not getting to them (the communities) and this money will go directly to that community via a community project,” she said.
“Charlton was probably one of the main towns hit quite badly, so we’ll probably be directing the money to them.”
Olga belongs to the Latin dance community in Hobsons Bay and has used her connections in the group to put on the event.
There will be several performances including Latin dancing, hip hop and a performance by Australia’s Got Talent’s fourth runner up Bobby Andonov.
“I just wanted a variety night where there’s not just Latin, but a bit of hip hop and a bit a singing and dancing.”
Olga said she was hoping to also get a band down from Buloke Shire to perform.
“It would be really good if they could come and share in the night.”
The main reason Olga wanted to put on this event was to show the people of Buloke Shire that Hobsons Bay has not forgotten about them.
“I want these people from Charlton to know that people are still thinking about them and they’re not forgotten,” she said.
Olga hopes the night will raise more than $5000 through ticket sales and raffles.
May Day – a rain dance to stop the floods will be held on Saturday 14 May at 7.30pm at The Substation.
Olga said The Substation’s support has been a huge help by donating the venue free of charge as well many others who have donated their time and services for the night.
