EPA set to inspect sites

FIFTEEN sites including two in Hobsons Bay will be inspected by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in the coming weeks.
EPA’s director of Environmental Services, Chris Webb said the focus of the blitz was to assess companies compliance with licence requirements.
“EPA licences are required for companies that either produce waste or create emissions – without environmental controls they would be unable to operate.
“An EPA licence dictates the acceptable environmental limits and outputs for that type of operation – it is vitally important companies adhere to these limits which are in place for good reason.”
These inspections are part of a larger EPA compliance operation for the 2010/11 financial year which will see 200 licensed sites inspected.
Under the Environment Protection Act (1970) EPA has the power to fine and prosecute against individuals and companies.
