ARTISTS have a unique way of interpreting their surroundings and the Hobsons Bay Art Society exhibition ‘Through the Artist’s Eyes’, will convey exactly that.
Sights in Hobsons Bay have been captured in works of art and will be showcased at the exhibition for everyone in the municipality to see.
Including the work of Nancy Belyea.
The Canadian born artist said despite studying art in the ’70s she was relatively new to the art scene.
“I only picked up the pencil 10 years ago,” she said.
Nancy told Star she was moved by the landscapes that surround Hobsons Bay.
“They’re absolutely inspiring.”
“Capturing the moment is what inspires me – as oppose to realism.”
The artist’s favourite medium is pen and ink but she is now branching out into acrylics.
Her first moment as an artist was as a child when she picked up a pen and drew her lounge room with all her belongings in it and the things that had been left behind by other people.
“Miraculously it’s really just a mark on paper but to produce something that has meaning is just astounding.”
This is just one of many exhibitions Nancy has contributed to during her time in Hobsons Bay.
“Exhibitions give you inspiration because they’re something to work towards and a time goal,” she said.
“It’s a focus – art is almost like a meditation because the focus is so strong when you’re there.”
‘Through the Artist’s Eyes’ will run from the 1 June to 29 July at the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre Lobby.
The official opening will be held on Thursday 23 June.
