A MAN has been arrested following the burglary of a Williamstown fish and chip shop earlier this month.
It is alleged that in the early hours of Saturday 2 July the man gained access to the Jolly Roger’s take-a-way restaurant via the roof, triggering off an internal alarm system.
Detective Senior Constable Mic Drew told Star police were quickly on the scene and arrested the man as he attempted to escape via the back door.
The 31-year-old was remanded in custody until the 10 July where he was granted bail to reappear on 18 July.
The owner of the take-a-way restaurant said this was the fourth break-in at the Jolly Roger’s.
“It has set us back,” he said.
“We’re still waiting for everything to get fixed.
“In my opinion it was great work on the police’s behalf (to catch the alleged offender at the scene).
“It sends the message that the police are onto them.”
Last year the Jolly Roger’s closed in December and the site temporarily became a Souvlaki Hut.
The owner added that it had been an uphill battle since they reopened the fish and chip shop in February.
