Fraud sentence

A SPOTSWOOD milk bar owner has been given a two month suspended sentence after defrauding an elderly customer out of more than $3000.
As reported by Star in May, the 35-year-old woman overcharged the 92-year-old victim on her credit card over a number of visits to the shop.
Police said the woman, Ms Trang Tong, would type an additional amount into the EFTPOS machine without the victim realising.
The elderly customer later reported the theft to police who issued a search warrant at the shop owner’s house and seized a number of documents linked to fraudulent transactions.
Last Wednesday, Ms Tong faced the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court where Magistrate Andrew McKenna also ordered her to pay a fine of $1000 and pay back the Commonwealth Bank $1673.27 and the National Australia Bank $386.
At the time of her arrest, police urged the community whenever making a purchase to ensure the correct amount is displayed on the EFTPOS machine before typing in your pin number.
