IN Hobson Bay’s latest energy saving initiative, Laverton and Altona Meadows are making the switch to energy efficient streetlights.
Hobsons Bay Mayor Michael Raffoul said the council had allocated approximately $600,000 over the past two financial years to commence a program to replace high energy consuming street lights with more energy efficient globes.
“This project will permanently cut emissions by about 625 tonnes, the equivalent of removing around 160 cars from our roads,” Cr Raffoul said.
“These globes use about 60 per cent less energy and are a step in the right direction for a cleaner and healthier municipality.”
Cr Raffoul said the council had a target of having zero net emissions by 2020 and would help the community achieve the same by 2030.
