POLICE are investigating an attempted abduction in Altona Meadows in the morning of Thursday 20 October.
Investigators have been told that a 16-year-old Altona Meadows girl was waiting at a bus stop near the intersection of Railway Ave and Linden Ave when she was approached by an unknown male about 8am.
The man has approached from behind, grabbing her around the shoulders in a bear hug before attempting to drag her to his older model white, four-door vehicle.
The victim, who was smoking at the time, has then screamed and used her cigarette to burn the man’s left forearm which caused him to let her go.
An unknown passer-by in a black vehicle has then sounded their horn and pulled over to assist the victim, whereupon the offender has fled to his car and driven down Linden St.
The offender is described as being 175cm tall with a medium build and olive complexion, black curly afro-like hair and acne marks on his face.
In addition, the offender’s vehicle is described as having rust spots near the back windows.
Investigators told Star the police didn’t have a lot to go on at this stage because the victim’s description of the attacker was vague.
“He approached her from behind and even when he released her he remained behind her,” he said.
Police are urging the good Samaritan who assisted the victim to come forward and assist with enquiries.
Anyone with information regarding the offender’s identity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au.
