MUSIC lovers were given a treat over the weekend with some of their favourite Hollywood hits being played by Hobsons Bay City Band when they took to the stage for their annual concert at The Substation.
Among the many talented musicians was the band’s youngest member 11-year-old Isagani who graced the audience with a solo performance on the night.
Isagani played ‘Gabriel’s Oboe’ which was written by the Italian composer Ennio Morricone.
The song is the main theme for the 1986 film The Mission directed by Roland Joffé.
The band performed a wide range of popular numbers including songs from Schindler’s List, The Legend of Zorro and Pearl Harbour as well as musical pieces from Les Miserables, The Wizard of Oz and a selection of Andrew Lloyd Webber classics.
The 30-strong member band, conducted by Mat Reynolds, is comprised of talented local musicians on a variety of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.
Sandy Lie and Greg Buckley also sang during a special feature of the concert.
Band President Greg Buckley said the annual concert had been the focal point for band members over the last few months.
“Hobsons Bay City Band is made up of volunteers and this concert is our main fundraiser for the year,” he said.
