WORKERS at Baiada Poultry in Laverton North have continued their strike action over the weekend, despite the extension of a Supreme Court injunction to stop union officials from blocking vehicles at the site.
About 200 workers went on an indefinite strike a fortnight ago, following four months of wage and workplace condition negotiations with Baiada Poultry.
A spokesperson for the National Union of Workers (NUW) said the workers would continue their strike action unless the situation at Baiada improved.
“At this stage, they’re (Baiada) are not looking to change the real issues inside the agreement,” the spokesperson said.
NUW official Godrey Moase said he had never seen a group of members more determined.
A spokesperson for Baiada said the company strongly refuted the claims being made by the NUW, particularly in relation to underpayment of employees.
“Baiada employees are paid substantially above the poultry award pay rates in Victoria.”
“Further pay increases have been offered as part of a new EBA.
“Baiada are taking all measures possible to ensure that customers are being supplied with their order requirements.”
