THE jawbone of a 13-year-old Altona school boy, who drowned 27 years ago, has been found in a Camberwell home.
Robert Bulic drowned during a tragic school trip at Point Leo Beach on 22 November 1984, but his body was never recovered.
Police recently seized a human jawbone from the East Melbourne house and conducted forensic testing on the bone.
Through DNA analysis, investigators were able to determine the remains were that of the school boy and have taken steps to return them to his family for interment.
Police are still investigating the incident to determine whether any criminal charges could apply in relation to the finding of the remains but understand they were found washed up on Shoreham beach not far from where Robert drowned.
In a statement Robert’s brother Tom said: “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and thanks to the individual who, in good conscience, contacted police as to the whereabouts of those remains.
“Robert was an outstanding young man whose memory is still cherished by those who knew and loved him, including family, school friends at Altona Primary School and St Paul’s and teammates at Altona City Soccer Club.
“A son, brother, cousin and friend, evidence of Robert’s death has served as a reminder of a beautiful life.”
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
