TEACHERS and students at Williamstown High School joined forces for a good cause last week, raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
The charity’s biggest fundraiser saw more than 150,000 Australians shave or colour their hair, including teachers and students at Willy High.
To the relief of Arky Elston’s parents, the 17-year-old chose to shave his famed dreadlocks for the cause.
“The only way to get rid of dreadlocks is to shave them so I thought I might as well sign up and do a good thing,” he said.
“My parents donated $100, they were so happy.”
Arky said teachers at Williamstown High School heard what he was planning to do and asked if he would join in with teachers and other students at the school.
This isn’t the first time the teen has taken part in the cause, he also shaved his head when he was in Year Eight but he admitted his hair wasn’t as long back then.
“It’s a great thing to support,” he said.
The Leukaemia Foundation is aiming to raise more than $15 million nationally to be able to continue its Mission to Care and Vision to Cure.
