EVER wanted to know what it feels like to be ‘locked up’ in jail?
Well, 18 Toll employees are about to find out.
The Hobsons Bay workers are taking part in Bail Out 2012, and will be locked up at the Old Melbourne Gaol for the night, to raise funds for Whitelion.
The event is Whitelion’s annual major fundraiser with the organisation working with at-risk youth, who often find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
To take part in the Bail Out, individuals have to raise a minimum of $1000.
Stella Misiti, who is the team captain for the Toll group taking part, took part in the event last year and was keen to encourage her co-workers to get involved.
“I was amazed at how many people put their hands up,” she said.
“It’s such a wonderful cause.”
Ms Misiti said Whitelion make the experience as realistic as possible, making volunteers wear jumpsuits, fingerprint them and take their mug shot.
“It’s a real insight into what these kids go through,” she said.
“You’re stripped a bit of your dignity.”
Ms Misiti said as a mother she understands the need for Whitelion.
“You don’t know how lucky our children are,” she said.
