FASHION is returning to Wyndham with one of the most successful events to come out of the municipality coming around again.
Fashion Awards Australia, which was started in Wyndham 15 years ago, has become a part of the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
Event organiser and Director, Heather Marcus, told Star the event had even started making waves internationally with a Croation-born Brisbane model turning to Fashion Awards Australia to help her find a designer ahead of her participation in the Face of Europe, a beauty pageant held in Paris.
“We are really, really proud and honoured that the Fashion Awards Australia has made it internationally,” Ms Marcus said.
“We never dreamed that we would reach the catwalks of Paris.”
The competition is all about nurturing young talent with students from Wyndham and other areas designing their own dresses in the hope of making it onto the runway at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne on 7 September.
The first regional final will be held in the eastern suburbs on 24 August while the second will be in Wyndham on 31 August.
From each of those events18 finalists will be selected and have their dresses modelled at the grand finale where TAFE students and professional designers will also compete for awards.
Ms Marcus said she was amazed to see how much the project had grown from is origins 15 years ago.
“We’re extremely proud. It was originally expected that it would only last for about eight years by the people who started it,” she said.
“They would be so proud if they were alive just to see how much it’s grown.”
