THE Western Jets fell 24 points short against the Gippsland Power in a hard fought TAC match on Saturday.
After a number of sizeable defeats this season, the Jets got off to a much better start to the round four match, making the most of their shots in front of goal to take a three point lead into the first change. However, after the resumption of play, Gippsland began to find its feet in the contest before taking control of the game through the middle of the ground.
The Power forwards were peppering the goals but could not finish accurately as they wasted a number of opportunities, kicking seven behinds in the second quarter. They weren’t alone though as the Jets also failed to kick a goal in the difficult conditions. Finally the Power was able to get some reward for effort after the break, kicking seven second half goals to five to run away with the 9.21 (75) to 8.3 (51) win.
Despite the loss, Joshua Bench was a standout for the Jets, kicking three goals and winning a number of important contests. He was well supported by Charlie Nastasi who worked hard around the ground. The Jets will look to get their season back on track this week when they hit the road to take on Tasmania at Aurora Stadium in Launceston.
