Bowel cancer detection

OWEL cancer claims more lives in Australia than road accidents or breast cancer.
There are approximately 12,000 new cases and 5000 deaths from bowel cancer each year.
However 90 per cent of bowel cancers can be cured if detected early.
This month the Rotary Clubs of Altona, Altona City, and Williamstown are teaming up to make the Bowelscan Program available to the local community for the fifth year running.
Early detection is possible through a simple kit, purchased from your local pharmacy for only $10, which you use at home and then return to the pharmacy.
The cost of the screening test includes the supply and testing of each kit as well as mailed notification of your result by the Bowelscan Medical Coordinator.
The incidence of bowel cancer increases progressively from the age of 40.
Participating pharmacies include Altona Martin Didzys Pharmacy, Tom Sarros Pharmacy, Tyrrell’s Pharmacy, Altona North Borrack Square Pharmacy, Altona North Blackshaws Road Night Chemist, Altona Meadows Pharmasave Pharmacy, Newport Pharmacy, Williamstown National and Williamstown Priceline Pharmacy.
