Rainbow celebration

HOBSONS Bay City Council flew the rainbow flag last Thursday to take action for a prejudice-free world regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
Hobsons Bay Mayor Tony Briffa said International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) was a day that celebrated unity in spirit and diversity in expression.
“Hobsons Bay City Council is committed to deliver on its vision of a vibrant community that celebrates diversity and provides opportunities for all,” Cr Briffa said. “This symbolises our support and commitment to reducing the barriers faced by Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (GLBTIQ) people in our communities. It is also one small step forward in strengthening human rights protections for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or sex and/or gender identity.
“We are also leading the effort within the western region to support and promote the GLBTIQ communities by initiating the establishment of the Western Regions Councils’ Working Group and have formed a GLBTIQ community Advisory Committee.”
