TWO Altona Principals will be jetting off to America to hone in on their maths and science teaching skills this month.
Seaholme Primary School Principal, David Moss and Altona North Primary School Principal Brendan O’Brien received the ExxonMobil Bright Future Education Award to enable them to attend the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy in Houston, Texas.
The Academy provides a week-long training program for primary school teachers to promote maths and science education, teaching skills and innovative ways to engage student learning.
The program covers teaching methods for maths and science concepts, interactive classroom experiments and fun maths games to encourage students to take an active interest in maths and science.
Mr Moss and Mr O’Brien will attend the academy with two other teachers from Longford and 200 teachers from Texas and Western United States primary schools.
This is the fourth year that Seaholme Primary School and Altona North Primary School have sent teachers to the academy.
Mr Moss said he’s hoping to get a greater understanding of teaching programs in the States.
“I’m looking forward to exchanging stories and views with the other teachers,” he said.
Mr O’Brien said that the school was grateful for Mobil’s long-term support of its maths and science programs.
“I am thrilled to be attending the academy and look forward to learning new and fun ways to teach maths and science,” he said.
