SERIES One of the SUB12 exhibition opened at The Substation in Newport last Thursday night.
Among the artists exhibiting was Sydney-based Mark Titmarsh.
The annual SUB12 series will be taking residency at The Substation this winter and features 12 artists, featuring 12 pieces of work over 12 weeks.
Mark, whose works range from paintings to large installations to a video performance, said he was thrilled to be invited to participate in the exhibition.
Despite the diverseness of pieces Mark has chosen to be part of the exhibition, he said they don’t seem so different to him.
“I don’t separate them in my mind,” he said.
“They’re all relatives to each other and evolutionary.
“Like how a painting can be evolved off the wall.”
The one thing which obviously links all the pieces together is Mark’s use of colour.
“Colour was my main interest in the show,” he said.
The artist said he was impressed with space available at The Substation.
“It’s a great space – the whole area is fantastic,” he said.
“I’ve done quite a bit of exploring, it’s quite beautiful.”
Mark said the three levels available t The Substation have given him a unique opportunity to make a statement with his work.
Series One of the SUB12 exhibition will be on display until 22 July and also features works by Santina Amato, Trevelyan Clay and Ry Haskings.
