A PROGRAM to combat number plate theft from vehicles will be held in Altona North on Saturday.
Hobsons Bay police, the SES and the Police Community Consultative Committee will fit one-way screws onto registration plates for free at the event. Once installed, the screws required a special tool to remove them and effectively make it more difficult to steal a car’s number plates.
Residents have been invited to attend the
anti-theft session, which will run between 9am and noon at the Bunnings Warehouse car park, 290-298 Millers Rd in Altona North.
Hobsons Bay police said stolen number plates were often used to commit other crimes such as petrol thefts or toll evasion.
