FOR more than three decades, the Rotary Club of Altona’s annual art exhibition has raised funds for charity.
This year, the Hobsons Bay Art Show is celebrating its 35th anniversary and will be on 18 -19 August at the Williamstown Town Hall.
The event will raise money for the Kick Start Breakfast program, and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute ‘Healthier Kids. Healthier Future’ project.
Newport artist Karen Gingell has participated in the past four Rotary art shows, and she encouraged residents to attend the latest exhibition.
“I think they would be very pleased with the calibre of the work there, I’m very impressed with the range and it is for a worthy cause,” she said.
The talented artist enjoys painting dancers, female figures, landscapes and animals including her dog Ginger.
“I do a variety of work, I also do a series of horses,” Ms Gingell said.
“Also friends of ours have a farm, so I’m doing lots of sheep lately.”
She is a full-time artist, but still takes lessons with a Footscray painting instructor.
“I think, as a child my mother always drew and I always did ink drawings and illustrations and then around seven or eight years ago, I really got into it,” Ms Gingell said.
“I think I just like the challenge of it and there’s always, something that I can learn and always something new going on.
“When someone you don’t even know lays money down for your work, it is immensely satisfying and I feel very grateful.”
The show will be held from 10am-4pm on 18-19 August, entry $10 or $5 concession. The PreView Evening on 17 August at 6.30pm is $40.
