CAMERON Davies hopes to regain his sight and begin walking again in the future.
About a year ago, the 36-year-old went out on a buck’s night and was drinking alcohol when he fell over and hit his head.
This resulted in an acquired brain injury which affected the father-of-two’s vision.
“I have a little sight which is coming back but I’m blind in both eyes and in a wheelchair at the moment,” Mr Davies said.
Mr Davies said the accident has “impacted pretty massively” on his life.
The professional security technician said he hoped to return to work once he completed more physical rehabilitation and brain-training, designed to help his sight recover.
Mr Davies is among the residents of Yooralla’s My Future My Choice houses in Altona.
The program is jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments to provide accommodation for young people with a disability who would otherwise be forced to live residential aged care.
The James Macready Bryan Foundation together with BLINC (Brain Linked Injury Needs Compassion) recently donated $40,000 to the My Future My Choice houses in Altona and Reservoir.
Mr Davies said before moving to the Altona location a few months ago he lived at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.
Mr Davies said his new Yooralla home “was quite a nice environment and the staff are wonderful.”
“I’m a bit more free to do stuff and I can get out and about a bit more,” he said.
Mr Davies said he was able to shower and dress himself but the toughest part of life after his accident was when his children, aged eight and 10 years, visited him every week.
