A YOUNG man was assaulted and robbed while visiting Altona North recently.
Police have appealed for public help to solve the crime which occurred in Box Court about 6am on Sunday 21 October.
The offenders spotted their 22-year-old victim when he was walking along Mason St with his two cousins.
A white, older model four-door hatch travelling west on Mason St passed the trio, but the driver hit the brakes, came to a stop and reversed back towards the group.
Detective Senior Constable Mick Drew from the Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit said the group feared being assaulted, so they ran away.
The victim and his cousins fled into Box Court, but became separated from each other.
The vehicle chasing them stopped and parked at the court and the driver and his passenger got out and approached the victim.
“Offenders have assaulted the victim by punching him to the face a number of times,” Det Sen Const Drew said.
“During the assault, the offenders demanded the victim to produce his phone and wallet.”
After the 22-year-old handed over the requested items, the robbers returned to their car and drove way.
Det Sen Const Drew said the victim sustained superficial injuries including pain and soreness to his face.
The man hails from rural Victoria and was in Altona North visiting his family when the incident occurred.
